The Chatfield Lake is the centerpiece of Chatfield State Park, offering swimming, boating, fishing and a full-service marina. Miles of paved and unpaved trails provide biking, hiking and horseback riding around the lake with the Rocky Mountains providing a scenic backdrop. Southwest of Denver, the park is popular with locals and the four campgrounds are often full during the summer months.

A great park for locals, but not really a destination for tourists. Visit the huge off-leash dog park on the north east side of the park with several lakes and access to the river. Lots of boating on the reservoir and some swim beaches. Horseback riding. Camping sites are fairly open, not a lot of trees. Some wildlife viewing of a heron rookery.
